All U-M students, faculty and staff are required to have the U-M Travel Abroad Health Insurance whenever traveling outside the US for university-related study, research, business, internships, work or volunteer activities.
U-M contracts with GeoBlue, a leader in international travel health insurance, to provide this coverage.
Students traveling for educational activities:
- Some students will receive this health insurance as part of their U-M program. If you are traveling as part of a U-M sponsored group, ask your program administrator if he/she will purchase for you. If so, you do not need to purchase.
- Students who do not receive this insurance as part of their U-M program should purchase it -- it's inexpensive.
U-M faculty and staff:
If you are traveling on university-related business, you are automatically covered by U-M at no cost.
Not traveling for U-M educational activities or business?
Current U-M students, and current faculty and staff under age 80, on personal/leisure travel can also purchase this inexpensive insurance before your trip begins.
To purchase this insurance and your register your trip (or sign in):
Go to the U-M Travel Registry.
As a member, you can use the GeoBlue app to help find quality care abroad.
