Allergy testing
and treatment The UHS allergist is available
to consult with eligible students, faculty and staff regarding a
variety of allergic conditions, including hay fever, hives, food
allergies, asthma, insect sting allergies, contact dermatitis, eczema,
and chronic sinus problems.
If allergy skin testing is indicated, it will be ordered by the allergist during a consultation, and
performed at a return visit.
For allergies that require desensitization treatment (also called
immunotherapy or allergy shots), allergy antigen may be ordered
and prepared at UHS or you may bring in your own from your private
physician. These antigens will be properly stored in the Clinic
and administered to you by the nursing staff.
In order to reduce the amount of client time involved in standard
visits for an immunotherapy program, the Allergy Clinic offers a
computerized self check-in procedure. This process helps quickly
facilitate your clinic visits and reduces waiting time.
Although homeopathic allergy management is not offered, you and
the allergist may opt to pursue a more natural approach to managing
allergy symptoms.
